Critical Point Multiplicities and Multiplicity Fluctuations in Heavy Ion Collisions

چکیده
An exactly solvable model of nuclear fragmentation is shown to lead to a simple connection between the critical point multiplicity m c and the critical point exponent τ recently reported on in the EOS collaboration. The importance of multiplicity fluctuations on critical point behavior is also discussed.

Non-Gaussian fluctuations near the QCD critical point.
We study the effect of the QCD critical point on non-Gaussian moments (cumulants) of fluctuations of experimental observables in heavy-ion collisions. We find that these moments are very sensitive to the proximity of the critical point, as measured by the magnitude of the correlation length xi. For example, the cubic central moment of multiplicity (deltaN)3 approximately xi4.5 and the quartic c...

The PHENIX Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has made measurements of event-by-event fluctuations in the net charge, the mean transverse momentum, and the charged particle multiplicity as a function of collision energy, centrality, and transverse momentum in heavy ion collisions. The results of these measurements will be reviewed and discussed.. 1. Introduction The PHENIX experi...
متن کاملEvent-by-Event Fluctuations in Heavy Ion Collisions and the QCD Critical Point
The event-by-event fluctuations of suitably chosen observables in heavy ion collisions can teach us much about the thermodynamic properties of the hadronic system at the time interactions freeze out. By studying these fluctuations as a function of varying control parameters like collision energy, centrality, ion size and rapidity, it is possible to learn much about the phase diagram of QCD. As ...
متن کاملReview of Monte Carlo methods for particle multiplicity evaluation
I present a brief review of the existing models for particle multiplicity evaluation in heavy ion collisions which are at our disposal in the form of Monte Carlo simulators. Models are classified according to the physical mechanisms with which they try to describe the different stages of a high-energy collision between heavy nuclei. A comparison of predictions, as available at the beginning of ...
متن کاملHow to Find the Qcd Critical Point
The event-by-event fluctuations in heavy ion collisions carry information about the thermodynamic properties of the hadronic system at the time of freeze-out. By studying these fluctuations as a function of varying control parameters, such as the collision energy, it is possible to learn much about the phase diagram of QCD. As a timely example, we stress the methods by which present experiments...
